When it comes to treatment for mental health there are a lot of pros and cons. Whether the treatment includes exercise, medication, nature, etc.
Each person is going to have different positives and negatives within each treatment. Some people benefit more from medication because “most medications are convenient, affordable, and are easily prescribed by a psychiatrist; they can be taken from the comfort of home with little to no disruption to your daily routine” (NeuroWellness).
While others don’t benefit as much from the medications because they “believe that they are overprescribed and have the potential to do more harm than good” (NeuroWellness). Overall, some of the benefits that are linked to medication are (NeuroWellness):
Relief from Symptoms
Improved Functioning
Increased Quality of Life
Medication, while there are a lot of benefits there are also a lot of disadvantages that come along with it. Some of the disadvantages include “some people may experience side effects from mental health medications, such as weight gain, dizziness, or fatigue. Some of the potential downsides include” (NeuroWellness):
Psychiatric medications don’t work for everyone.
Psychiatric medications can take weeks or months to take effect.
Some people experience side effects from psychiatric medications like weight gain, fatigue, sexual dysfunction, or dizziness.
Overall, Medications have pros and cons, and it's up to the patient to decide which course of treatment is best for them. Nobody not even a doctor will know your body and mental health better than yourself.
